Current SAFA president Danny Jordaan is seeking a second term to serve South African football, because there’s still a lot that he needs to implement to realise Vision 2022.
Jordaan who was elected president of SAFA in September 2013, says the association has only implemented phase one of Vision 2022.
The 66 year-old football administrator looks set to retain his position later this month with only one candidate opposing him for the presidency.
Jordaan has served SAFA in different capacities since he was appointed SAFA’s chief executive in 1997.
A few years later he was appointed as chief executive of South Africa’s unsuccessful bid to host the 2006 FIFA World Cup.
The Eastern Cape-born Jordaan went on the serve as chief executive of the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa.
He was then elected as SAFA president five years ago, and maintains that he wants to finish what he has started.
Jordaan says:”In the first phase we said we must do the following, we need an academy or technical centre, we have it we are building it out. There are four fields already, we are going to unveil it soon. We are going to build a hotel there of over hundred million, our investment will be over two hundred million.”
The success of South Africa’s junior teams has been evident in recent years, but the biggest challenge is Bafana Bafana who failed to qualify for the World Cup on two successive occasions.
But former Bafana Bafana captain Lucas Radebe says change is necessary to take South Africa’s football to another level.
Former Bafana Bafana captain Lucas Radebe says: “I think change is good for me. I think there is always room for improvement especially when it comes to the matters of football in the country where we falter a lot and we trying to fix things and I respect everybody that is involved in the game.”
Radebe, who was ineligible to stand for the presidency due to his non-involvement within formal SAFA structures, says he’s prepared to serve in any capacity to help grow the sport in the country.
Former referee Andile “Ace” Ncobo is the only candidate challenging Jordaan for the SAFA presidency with only one nomination from the 52 SAFA regions.
