Johannesburg Water says its reservoirs have been steadily improving following Rand Water’s major maintenance work earlier this week.
The bulk water supplier replaced two valves on pipelines which required them to shut down the system for a few days.
Some residents in the city have been without water as a result.
Johannesburg Water Spokesperson, Eleanor Mavimbela says “Joburg water is aware that there are areas still experiencing low water pressure to no water supply. Our reservoirs and towers that were running critically low have shown improvements.
We are hopeful that with the increased capacity, we receive from Rand water, we should be able to fully supply those areas still without water very soon. Alternative water supply in the form of tankers are still available for customers without water and a list of these tankers is available on our social media pages.”

Rand Water said earlier it has met Johannesburg Water to ascertain the extent of the current water outages affecting parts of the city. The bulk water supplier embarked on major maintenance on its pipelines this week, which affected some residents in Pretoria and Johannesburg.
“Whilst the situation is steadily improving, there remain certain areas where there is no water. The following Johannesburg Water reservoirs were still experiencing challenges, Crown Gardens, Hurst Hill, Waterval Tower, Linden One Reservoir and Rand Water is working with Johannesburg Water to ensure that this matter is resolved as soon as is possible,” says Rand Water spokesperson Justice Mohale.
