Johannesburg’s power utility – City Power – is calling on residents to use electricity sparingly this weekend, as it’s expecting added pressure on it’s network as electricity usage increases due to the cold weather.

A statement issued by the power utility, reads: “Our technicians have been placed on standby in case of any problems arising from severe weather conditions. We request that customers try to reduce the usage of heavy appliances such as geysers, stoves, electric blankets, pool pumps etc.”

Meanwhile, the South African Weather Service has forecasted cold weather and heavy downpours this weekend.

Gauteng temperatures are expected to peak at 12-degrees on Saturday and 11-degrees on Sunday.
