Johannesburg Emergency Services say while no major incidents have been reported as a result of Friday night’s heavy rain in the city, officials remain on high alert.

The South African Weather Service has forecast rain in Johannesburg throughout the weekend.

Emergency Services Spokesperson Robert Mulaudzi is urging caution.

“It’s raining in most parts of Johannesburg. Most of our roads are wet and slippery. We urge our motorists to exercise caution. Extend a safe following distance and avoid crossing flooded roads. No major incidents have been reported. We continue to be on high alert. We urge our residents in low lying areas to monitor the water levels and move to higher ground.

Meanwhile, heavy rains continue go wreak havoc in some communities around Mbombela in Mpumalanga.

At Mattafin near Mbombela, a heavy downpour has washed away roads and left houses damaged. Some residents can’t even get to their homes due to the badly damaged roads.
