Johannesburg calm following protests

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Relative calm has been restored to most areas in and around Johannesburg which experienced community protests on Wednesday morning.

A number of areas including Eldorado Park, Freedom Park, Dieplook and Meadowlands in Soweto saw communities blocking roads with burning tyres and rocks.

Elias Motsoaledi road near Dobsonville and the Goldern Highway were also affected.

It’s not clear what the communities are protesting about but it seems to be service delivery related.

Johannesburg Metro police spokesperson Edna Mamonyane says most areas are clamer now.

She says: “The N12 seems to be the one that was more problematic and the Golden Highway on the side of Eldorado Park but at the moment we having a bit of calm.”
