Joburg police shut down non-complying nightclubs

Johanneburg Metro police took to the inner city on Saturday to raid nightclubs as part of operation nightlife.

Emergency Services and the liquor board were also part of Buya Mthetho operation which is aimed at enforcing bylaws and bringing the rule of law back to the city.

Police officers wasted no time in shutting down a night club in downtown Johannesburg due to non-compliance with safety regulations and an expired operating license. Much to the dissatisfaction of hundreds of intoxicated patrons.

In another club, marijuana and nyaope were the order of the day. Law enforcement officers say club owners should take more responsibility.

Personnel from the emergency services and liquor board were also on site to inspect. Eight clubs were raided.

A 20-year-old male was arrested for drug possession and thousands of rand in fines were issued to club owners.
