“The Mayor had previously taken a COVID test recently which had come back negative. He has again today taken a follow-up test to confirm his status. He will be in self-isolation until the results of that particular tests are known. All staff members within his office, including those who had come into contact with the said staff member, have been notified so that they may also get tested. The Mayor has wished the said staff member well in their recovery and will be in self-isolation until the results improve or until they test again and they test negative,” says Mayoral Spokesperson, Mlimandlela Ndamase.

Reopening of schools in Gauteng
Grades 7 and 12 learners in the province had their first day back in school on Monday. The MEC of Education in the province Panyaza Lesufi earlier said that 85% of Gauteng teachers reported for work on the first day of schooling for grades 7’s and 12’s.
“We also received 85% teacher attendance. 15% being absent. We’re analysing the reasons why 15% of our educators were absent, but we are quite aware that a number of teachers have filled forms indicating that they’ve got co-existing diseases and therefore, they want authorisation from their medical doctors before they can attend school.”
