A 42-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly murdering his wife and burying her in a shallow grave in Randfontein, west of Johannesburg.

Police say after a tip-off, they went to the man’s home but did not find him. However, police recovered an unlicensed firearm at the premises.

Police launched a manhunt for the suspect and arrested him shortly thereafter. Police spokesperson Solomon Sibiya says the suspect then confessed to murdering his wife on Saturday.

“He was searched and found, after which he voluntarily confessed that he has actually murdered his wife and buried her just a few metres from their home. We then proceeded to the point where he pointed to the grave, we then digged the grave and the wife was found buried in a shallow grave.”
