Joburg brings tomorrow’s leaders together

The stage is set for the City of Johannesburg to shine once again on Wednesday, as the city hosts the fourth annual One Young World Summit.

The conference will see about 1 300 of tomorrow’s leaders under the age of 30, from 185 countries gather at the Sandton Convention Centre for the next three days, where they will meet to discuss issues affecting the youth.

Topics will range from education, sport and society, sustainable development, Youth unemployment, human rights, leadership, and transparency amongst others.

City of Johannesburg Mayor, Parks Tau, is expected to officially open the conference at the opening ceremony later today at the World renowned FNB Stadium.

Former United Nations Secretary General from Kofi Annan is due to give the keynote address alongside Nobel Peace prizewinner Professor Muhammad Yunus and musician Sir Bob Geldof.

The event will also see 8 000 pupils from local schools attending the ceremony and have the chance to interact with their counter parts from other regions.

The session is chaired and guided by Counsellors selected for their leadership

During the conference, which is divided into various sessions for delegates. One Young World Counsellors will be at hand. The Counsellors are seen to play a vital role in providing direction, inspiration and leadership. Each session is chaired and guided by Counsellors selected for their leadership of, and interest in, the area under debate. Counsellors will be at large include:
