‘It’s time ANC ordinary members’ concerns be heard’

Reading Time: < 1 minute

African National Congress (ANC) veteran, Sheila Sisulu says it’s time for the concerns of ordinary members of the ruling party be heard.

She was speaking on the sidelines of the National Consultative Conference, which is being held by ANC veterans and stalwarts at Johannesburg’s Constitutional Hill. The group has been calling for President Jacob Zuma’s removal from office after the ANC’s loss of three metro municipalities, the Nkandla saga and the release of the State of Capture report.

The stalwarts and veterans say there’s an urgent need for introspection, as the governing party finds itself in crisis.

Sisulu says, “It is not necessary to always only have official gatherings of the ANC. We have not always worked like that. Pre-1994, when the ANC was banned, we still worked on matters of the ANC. And today, because there are problems in the leadership we, the people, need to stand up, we need to be heard; we need to make changes within the ANC and the country.”
