The South African Institute of Race Relations (IRR) says its latest election poll results have revealed that the African National Congress (ANC) has 55% of the national vote, while the Democratic Alliance (DA) stands at 22%, and the EFF at 12%.
The poll shows that the ruling party has suffered a decline of 1.3% compared to the previous poll conducted in December.
The DA has meanwhile improved by over 3%, while the EFF has gained the largest growth percentage of almost 6%.
Head of Politics and Governance at IRR Gareth van Onselen, says support for the ANC seems to have declined from where it was in December, the DA has recovered and the EFF’s growth substantial.
“Polls are conducted telephonically. This poll was of 1 611 registered voters. The sample is random and fully demographically representative. Parties like the DA have a more diverse support base. Parties like the EFF remain almost entirely black. The ANC is a largely black supported party. I think two of the biggest issues have been the various revelations around Bosasa at the Zondo Commission and return of loadshedding and those few days of Stage 4 loadshedding,” says Van Onselen.
