The Independent Police Investigative Directorate, IPID, is investigating the circumstances around the hostage situation that claimed the lives of three people, including a policeman. The incident happened at Lentegeur in Mitchells Plain on the Cape Flats.
IPID spokesperson, Moses Dlamini, says a policeman allegedly shot two women before turning the gun on himself.
“A police officer is alleged to have had an altercation with the girlfriend which resulted in the police management taking away his firearm, and also put him out of the house. However, he went back to the house shot his girlfriend, the mother of the girlfriend and in the hostage situation he eventually shot himself.”
