IPID investigates 38 cases against cops for alleged lockdown misconduct

Police watchdog, the Independent Police Investigative Directorate, (IPID) is investigating 38 cases against police officials across the country for misconduct during the first part of the 21-day national lockdown.

The investigations include two deaths in police custody in Limpopo, two deaths in Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal and the Western Cape.

A rape case allegedly by a police official is also being investigated in the Western Cape.

Fourteen cases of alleged assault by police officials across five provinces are being probed with the Free State registering the most at four, followed by Gauteng at three.
