The movie Inxeba: The Wound will return to local cinema screens after an agreement in the High Court in Pretoria to drop a temporary X18- rating on the film.

The controversial film will return to cinemas on Friday with an 18SNL (sex, nudity and language warning) rating.

The producers went to court after the Film and Publications Board rating put the film in the same category as pornography. The matter was postponed until 28 March.

John Trengove, the director and co-writer of the film, says they will continue with the legal battle to reduce the films rating to 16 and added that parts of the film and the film itself has become available on the internet through piracy because of the criticism.

“It also means that there is a significant community in our country that has now watched the film that would not have seen it if it wasn’t for the criticism and the protest directed at the film and that for us is a huge moral victory. This film exist for marginal people in our country, who do not have representation, so for this film to reach that communities is absolutely incredible and it has exceeded our expectations.”
