Mbombela’s Innibos Arts Festival is growing into a multi-million rand venture. Bringing together revellers from across the country, the event is set to contribute positively to the local economy.
A fun affair themed ‘fire and flames’ from circus games, stalls selling different scrumptious dishes to feast on, to music on different stages and art for sale, revellers enjoyed the festival.
“It’s a beautiful day to have fun. We even brought children,” says one festival goer.
Others wish the art festival could be more diverse. “It’s predominantly white, the music too. If they can add a bit of Cassper Nyovest.”
Organisers are impressed with the event’s growth.
Festival manager, Sandra Jacobs says they are set to make more than R80 million.
“We are set to make more than the R80 million we made last year (2018) at the event. We are experiencing growth in terms of ticket sales and attendance. Therefore, people are spending more. There are more people from Gauteng this year.”
The Innibos Arts Festival is aimed at promoting social cohesion and growing the provincial economy.
The provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Recreation funds the event. Sanjay Singh from the department says that they contributed R2 million to the event.
“We have given R2 million to this event as the government. It’s an event that creates jobs for everyone at that point in time.”
More than 100 000 people from all over the country attended the festival.
