Innibos Art Festival set to boost tourism in Mbombela

The annual Innibos Art Festival is now open in Mbombela. The event promotes social cohesion and will be a boost to tourism.

Visitors will be treated to music, dynamic food stalls and games for children.

The festival kicked off with a parade through the city of Mbombela. Different cultures showcasing attires and music as residents lined the streets to witness the parade.

The residents have expressed excitement about the festival.

“The sun is going to be shining and everything is going to be amazing. At the Innibos, every year is lekker,” a resident says.

The festival boasts four stages and over 3 000 artists. It expects to make more than R80 million.

Art Festival’s Sandra Jacobs explains,  “The main stage has a program every evening with the most popular Afrikaans and other artists in South Africa performing. We have a rock stage and we also have theatre productions. We have visual arts in various locations in town.”

Pat Ngomane, from the provincial Economic Development, says the department invested R3 million into the festival.

“We started with a R3 million project which we targeted small business people who are interested in the tourism industry. Our main aim was to make sure that we train and skill these people.”

Organisers are expecting about 100 000 people to attend.
