Reading Time: < 1 minute

South African-born Scotland rugby international Cornell du Preez is stable, but will need further surgery after suffering a throat injury playing for the Worcester Warriors against Wasps this week-end.

He suffered a blow to the throat just five minutes into his first match for the team, after transferring from Edinburgh.

The Warriors have released a statement to say he’s stable in hospital, but will need more surgery.

The injury can lead to problems with both the voice and breathing.

Du Preez was born in Port Elizabeth, and played for the Leopards and the Kings, before moving to Scotland in 2013.

He has played six matches for Scotland, earning a starting berth at number eight in their narrow loss to New Zeaand at the end of 2017.
