Brent crude oil prices surpassed $100 per barrel on Thursday, following Russia’s announcements on military operations in Ukraine.
This led to a surge in global markets that left the rand weakened by more than one percent on Thursday morning, trading at R15,26 against the dollar.
While the dollar was up more than 10% against the Russian currency, this is the lowest level ever the ruble has been against the dollar.
