On May 12 the world celebrates International Nurses Day under the theme of “Nursing the World to Health during the COVID-19 pandemic”. The celebrations coincide with the anniversary of Florence Nightingale’s birth – the founder of modern nursing.
In South Africa, the commemoration comes during Level 4 national lockdown. Nurses, amongst many healthcare professions, have been in the frontline of COVID-19 as essential workers.
