The Consumer Price Inflation (CPI) dropped to 5.7% in January 2022 from 5.9% in December 2021.
The decrease comes after a five-year high since March 2017.
On Wednesday Statistics South Africa (Stats SA) released the CPI index for January.
Statistician-General, Risenga Maluleke, in a statement says food and non-alcoholic beverages increased by 5,7%.
He says they contributed 1,0% to the total CPI annual rate.
“Housing and utilities increased by 4,3% year-on-year and contributed 1,1%. Transport increased by 14,5% year-on-year, and contributed 1,9%,” says Maluleke.
