The African Cup of Nations 2023 begins on Saturday, 13 January 2024, with Ivory Coast hosting the opening match against Guinea-Bissau at the Alassane Ouattara Stadium in Abidjan.

Ivory Coast will host the 34th edition of the biennial African association football tournament, organised by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

This will be the second time Ivory Coast hosts the tournament, the first being in 1984.

This edition was initially planned to be the third since 2019 to take place during the Northern Hemisphere’s summer time in order to limit scheduling conflicts with European soccer leagues.

However, it was rescheduled to January 2024 because of unfavourable weather conditions in the Ivory Coast during the summer in Europe.

Despite the rescheduling, it still retained its name as AFCON 2023 for sponsorship reasons.
