Independents see a 60% increase in seats held

3 November 2021, 10:01 PM  |
|  @SABCNews

With 90% of the results of the 2021 Local Government Elections completed, independent candidates have increased the number of seats they fill on local councils to 43. Independent candidates won 27 ward seats in the 2016 local government elections.

South Africans voted on Monday to elect new representation for local and metro municipalities. All the votes have been counted, the IEC said earlier, but results are still being verified.

None of the metro results are available as yet.
