Democratic Alliance (DA) Federal Council Chairperson James Selfe says an independent investigation will test allegations against certain senior individuals in the City of Cape Town.

A number of senior city officials are currently being investigated for alleged tender irregularities in the transport department.

Executive Director in the mayor’s office Craig Kesson recently made claims against City Manager Achmat Ebrahim and City Transport and Urban Development Commissioner, Melissa Whitehead.

Kesson also mentioned Mayor Patricia de Lille’s name in an affidavit.

Selfe says the DA takes the matter seriously.

“They will focus on charges of possible maladministration that were made in various affidavits tabled in the council. We emphasise that at this stage they are simple allegations. We believe its vital important that the investigation is seen to be thorough and gets to the bottom of every allegation made and allows the council to put this behind and get on with its business.”
