The Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) has retained ward seven at Nkandla municipality in the northern part of the province.

Nkosinathi Skhumbuzo Khumalo won the ward with 53.33% of votes.  The ward became vacant after the death of a councillor.

Meanwhile the Democratic Alliance (DA) also retained their eThekwini ward 10 at Kloof, west of Durban.

Terence Peter Collins was elected ward councillor for eThekwini with 94.23%of votes.

The ward which was previously under the DA became vacant when the councillor resigned.

Collins says that the previous councillor laid the proper ground work for the DA.

“The community realised that the only alternative in this country is the DA … when you get results like we had in Kloof. In as much as the ward is concerned there are couple of very important priorities. One of the most important priorities is to sort out that enviroserv landfill site because it affects everybody in the community more especially those people in ward 10.”

“The other thing is to bring in those communities that are on the margin. We have areas that have very little … We want to get them proper housing, proper water and proper electricity so they don’t have to live in shacks,” explains Collins.
