IFP hopes for pro-poor budget

Reading Time: < 1 minute

The Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) says it expects Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan to table a budget that is pro-poor given the current economic conditions.

The party says the poor had to be cushioned from the drought that is currently ravaging some parts of the country and also from the possibility of higher taxes.

IFP spokesperson on Finance, Sibongile Nkomo says Gordhan must also be harsh on corruption which is costing the fiscus billions of rands and also be able to attract investment opportunities.

“So its very important that today people get much more than hope. They actually must get what has to happen in order to ensure that things go right in the country. We need to account for money and make sure that there is value for money that is important that is what the people in South Africa expect.”
