IFP adds voice against “Vote No” campaign

The Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) leader, Mangosuthu Buthelezi, has described the “Vote No” campaign as totally irresponsible, to encourage South Africans to spoil their votes during the 7 May general election.

He was reacting to the call by ANC stalwarts Ronnie Kasrils and Nozizwe Madlala-Routledge, who launched their campaign on Tuesday.

The campaign urges South Africans to spoil their ballots or vote for smaller opposition parties in protest against corruption in the government.

Buthelezi was speaking at an IFP rally in Ngotshe area near Vryheid, in northern KwaZulu-Natal.

He says South Africans must vote, as this is what the struggle was for and many died for them to have this right.

Buthelezi says that it is failing the heroes more especially Madiba, Sisulu and other leaders to encourage people to go to voting stations and decide not to vote.

“My message to all South Africans is that we’d really be shooting ourselves in the foot if you do that,” says Buthelezi.
