Eligible voters who were unable to visit their stations can still register at IEC offices before the announcement of the election date by President Cyril Ramaphosa.

The final voter registration drive at polling stations has been completed. The Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC) says it will release detailed information about how the weekend progressed during the week.

Citizens across the country had the opportunity to visit their local voting stations to register or check if their names were still on the voters’ roll.

Eligible voters who were unable to visit their stations can still register at IEC offices before the announcement of the election date by President Cyril Ramaphosa.

Registered voters can go online or send text messages to the IEC to verify their details. The IEC had said of about nine million eligible voters, mostly the youth were not yet on the voters roll.

The voter registration weekend was marred by community protests, vandalizing of IEC property and communities preventing officials from working in some areas around the country.
