The Independent Electoral Commission in Limpopo has finalised preparations for the coming voter registration weekend. The 8th and 9th February is the final registration weekend for the 2014 provincial and national elections, to be held on a date still to be announced.
Provincial Electoral Officer, Nkaro Mateta, says registration materials have been prepared for dispatch to voting stations.
She says electoral staff have been trained.
“All 3066 registration station would be open and all our materials are also ready all our staff have been trained. We are going to deploy in excess of 6 000 registration officials that will be manning the all those stations.”
Mateta says even registered voters need to go to their stations to verify their particulars.
“And people to visit the stations for three reasons the first reason is to register, if they are not yet registered particularly if they changed an address. The third reason is to verify whether you are details are on the voter rolls. Some people relax. Verification is also important because you will be disappointed on Election Day when your name does not appear on voters’ roll.”
