The Independent Electoral Commission is forging ahead with preparations for the Local Government Elections in 27 days’ time.
There is a total of 1 718 independent candidates and at least 325 political parties contesting the elections.
As the date looms, SABC News asked South Africans how they feel about the elections.
“I think it is very important for all South Africans to vote because voting gives you power. If you are not voting, you giving away that power, you are giving away to somebody else the right to vote on your behalf. We know, we got a situation in the country where we need to get things right, things are not right at the moment, things are looking scrappy at the moment, we need to rectify the situation,” says a citizen.
“Please vote, it’s important to vote, every vote in the new directions, vote for better service delivery,” says a citizen.
