The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) say it has authorised an internal enquiry to establish the unauthorised disclosure of the African National Congress (ANC)’s party’s candidate list.

This follows a written request to the Commission by the governing party to investigate the circumstances which led to the leaks of the party’s copies of the National-to- National, and Gauteng Regional Lists posted on social media.

2024 Elections | ANC Spokesperson Mahlengi Bhengu-Motsiri discusses leaked parliamentary list:

Preliminary indications reveal that 115 parties have made submissions to contest seats in the National Assembly.

All political parties represented in parliament have made submissions to contest seats in the National Assembly and at least one region, whilst 101 parties that are contesting in the elections but do not have seats in parliament also made submissions.

Sixteen submissions have been received from independent candidates. In terms of the provinces 93 unrepresented parties have made
submissions, additionally 11 independent candidates and the 14 parties currently represented.
