The National Council for the Blind says the Electoral Commission (IEC) employees were not properly trained to assist visually impaired people during Monday’s local government elections.
The Council’s, Louis Nzimande says some blind people had to wait hours before casting their vote because their stations did not have the Universal Ballot Templates(UBT), which are used to assist blind people.
“The IEC staff, which was also supposed to be trained to understand that there is a UBT the brail template, were even rude and turning away blind people in PE, in Durban and in many other areas,” says Nzimande.
