The Independent Electoral Commission says it has the mandate and prerogative to extend the voting hours at problematic voting stations. There have been reports throughout the day of voting stations not having sufficient ballot papers or incidents where registered voters could not find their names on the voters’ roll.
Briefing the media at the Results Centre in Pretoria, the IEC said it would deal with these situations individually and make a decision on whether to allow voting to take place after 21:00.
