World athletics governing body, The International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) has agreed to delay the implementation of its controversial Eligibility Regulations.

This is for the Female Classification Athletes with differences of sex development from November 2018 to March 2019.

The IAAF wants to avoid further delays in the proceedings brought by Caster Semenya and Athletics South Africa, challenging their legality.

The IAAF says a contested application to stay the implementation of the regulations would have caused additional delay and created new uncertainty for athletes seeking to compete in the women’s category.

The regulations, which require athletes with DSD to maintain their serum testosterone levels below five nanomoles per litre for at least six months prior to competing in the restricted events over distances from 400 metres  to one mile.
