I am disappointed in the manner Nachula missed the penalty: Mwamba

Zambia senior women’s team coach Beauty Mwamba says she is disappointed at the manner in which Rachel Nachula missed a penalty against Botswana in Group B at the women’s Cosafa Cup in Port Elizabeth on Tuesday.

The top of the table clash was locked at 0-0 in the 75th minute when a Botswana player handled the ball in their own box.

The veteran midfielder stepped up and casually shot wide from the spot leaving the game to finish in a goalless stalemate.

Mwamba says Nachula was over confident.

A win for Zambia would have seen them top the group with nine points and face the best loser in the semifinals.

Now, the Copper Queens will face the same opposition who have also qualified for the semis after tournament organisers opted to not alter the last four fixture.

According to tournament rule 10.13, if the best second positioned side is from group B the organising committee may use their discretion to change the fixture.

Meanwhile, Mwamba is pleased to have come out of the game without any injuries.

Botswana coach Lorato Gaobonelwe is happy her side have reached so far in the competition.

Gaobonelwe has brought a younger team to the tournament and she hopes to see some of the girls join the team that is currently camping in Slovakia in preparation for the 2020 Olympic Qualifiers.
