The official commemoration of the 2015 Human Rights Day is currently under-way in Rosedale Field, Uitenhage in the Eastern Cape.

Justice and Correctional Services Minister Michael Masutha will give the keynote address.

Eastern Cape Premier Phumulo Masualle and MEC for Sports Pemmy Majodina are also in attendance.

About 5000 people in and around the Eastern Cape have braved the chilly weather to attend proceedings.

The theme for Human Right Day 2015 is “Celebrating the Freedom Charter, Enjoying Equal Human Rights for All”.

The commemoration this year occurs under the shadow of the death of Public Service and Administration minister Collins Chabane, who died a week ago.

He is being buried today at his home in Limpopo.

Proceedings in Uitenhage started off with a mournful song in remembrance of the late minister.

Meanwhile, Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema will address a group of people in Langa for the EFF’

commemoration of Human Rights Day.
