United Democratic Movement (UDM) leader, Bantu Holomisa has made a clarion call to South Africans to punish the African National Congress (ANC) at the polls for their failure to lead. Holomisa was speaking on the sidelines of a community meeting in Rosettenville, south of Johannesburg, where members of the community raised a number of issues including illegal evictions and drugs.

Nokwanda Oliphant has been a resident of Rosettenville for over three decades. The 52-year old has witnessed her community deteriorate and is now facing a possible illegal eviction.

“In 2015, a foreign national tried to take me out of my home, saying he bought it from an auction”, says Oliphant.

The community of Rosettenville are faced with many problems such as prostitution, trafficking and drug abuse. Residents have claimed that they have exhausted all avenues and have called on Holomisa to intervene.

“Holomisa promised to deliver a report detailing the challenges faced by the residents of Alexandra and exert pressure on the president. He further urged citizens to punish the governing party at the polls,” says community leader, Cuma Gogo.

“We don’t have powers like government, but we will put pressure on government. The ANC government has failed the people, why should people vote for them,” says Holomisa.

The UDM leader has further called for government to sign an extradition treaty into law.
