Economic Freedom Fighters members have allegedly stormed shops of retail store H&M in Pretoria and Johannesburg.

Police have confirmed that one of the shops has been trashed in Menlyn, east of Pretoria.

In Johannesburg a number of stores have been targeted in malls including BrightWater.

The party members are protesting against inscriptions on H&M clothes which include “coolest monkey in the jungle” in which a black boy modeled. This caused outrage on social media.

The police’s Lungelo Dlamini says they are monitoring the protests: “There are protests in all the stores, south of Johannesburg, in the north, and also in Pretoria and the east rand. At this stage I am still trying find out the situation on the ground what’s happening.”
