The Hluhluwe Imfolozi Park’s Hilltop Resort has been closed after a manager tested positive for the coronavirus. Guests are allowed to self-isolate at the resort, provided that they cook for themselves and do their own house-keeping.
The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Tourism says these steps have been taken because the manager who tested positive, interacted with all staff and guests as part of his duties.
The department says it is expected that the resort will reopen on Thursday.
The Mpila resort in the park on the KwaZulu-Natal North Coast is still open and the park is still receiving day visitors.
South Africa has recorded 15 002 new coronavirus (COVID-19) cases in the past 24-hours, bringing the total number of cases to 1 088 889.
The country has also recorded 288 new COVID-19 related fatalities, pushing the death toll to 29 175.
Most of the new deaths were recorded in the Western Cape.
In a statement, Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize says, “Regrettably, 288 more COVID-19 related deaths: Eastern Cape 92, Free State 9, Gauteng 39, KwaZulu-Natal 29, Mpumalanga 6, Northern Cape 2 and Western Cape 111. This brings the total to 29 175.”
Recoveries now stand at 897 704, representing a recovery rate of 82,4%.
