Highlanders beat Lions 39-27

Reading Time: 2 minutes

The Highlanders beat the Lions 39-27 in Dunedin New Zealand in the Super Rugby.

The Lions will however remain top of the South African Conference after the weekend’s matches but the result gave other teams an opportunity to narrow the gap.

The Highlanders raced into a 19-3 lead in the first half. But the Lions narrowed the gap shortly before halftime when they scored two tries.

The home side went into the break 19-14 ahead and extended their lead shortly after the restart.

And while the Lions enjoyed a lot of possession and territory for the rest of the half they just couldn’t catch up with their opponents.

Australian Super Rugby teams are once again battling this year but the Waratahs’ performance against the Crusaders in Christchurch New Zealand reached new levels of embarrassment.

The Waratahs led 29-0 after just 27 minutes but failed to score a single point after that.

The Crusaders chipped away at the lead and a penalty-try twelve minutes from the end allowed them to win 31-29.

It’s a weekend to forget for the Australians as the Sunwolves recorded their first win of the season when they beat the Reds 63-28 in Tokyo Japan.

It was the highest ever points total for the Sunwolves and their first ever victory against an Australian side.
