It is not yet clear whether former President Jacob Zuma will be fit to stand trial for his corruption case. This as his military doctors failed to meet the 20th of August court deadline to hand over their report on his fitness to stand trial.

Zuma who is currently receiving medical attention, as he is also continuing to serve his 15-month sentence for contempt of court, after failing to appear before the State Capture Commission is scheduled to sit for trial later this week.

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) Spokesperson, Mthunzi Mhaga, says Zuma’s doctors had asked to file their report, but now that they have failed to do so. The matter will be in the hands of the Pietermaritzburg High Court to determine a way forward.

“I can confirm that Mr Zuma’s legal team did not file the medical report as required by the court, as the NPA we will leave it to the court to decide how to deal with it.”
