The Helen Suzman Foundation has launched an urgent application before the High Court in Pretoria requesting the reasons behind National Correctional Services Commissioner Arthur Fraser’s decision to place former President Jacob Zuma on medical parole.

Fraser missed the deadline to submit his reasons to the foundation on Tuesday.

The Helen Suzman Foundation has launched a legal bid against National Commissioner for Correctional Services, Arthur Fraser after he missed Tuesday’s deadline to submit reasons for his decision to place former President Jacob Zuma on medical parole.

The foundation is also requesting the court to review and set aside Fraser’s decision as well as an order refusing to grant the former statesman’s application for medical parole.

Fraser came under fire last week after admitting that the Medical Parole Advisory Board did not approve parole for Zuma and that he instead overruled the decision.

The former spy boss maintained that due process was followed despite the backlash from some parts of society and civil organisations.
