Hefty sentences for EMS staff attackers

The Western Cape Ministries of Community Safety and Health have welcomed the hefty prison sentence handed down to three criminals who had attacked an emergency medical staff member in Manenberg earlier this year.

The Wynberg Regional Court has sentenced the three attackers to 12 years in jail for their ambush of a female paramedic in June this year.

This follows another 12 year sentence handed down in October for robbing two paramedics in Khayelitsha.

Spokesperson for the Community Safety Ministry, Ewald Botha, says the message from the Western Cape government is clear.

“Anyone who dares to try and attack service personnel such as EMS staff, police, law enforcement and firemen in our communities should be warned that they will be caught and that they will face the heavy might of the law,” says Botha.
