Heavy traffic volumes expected as ZCC pilgrims head to Moria

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Three people have been killed and three seriously injured in a collision between a bakkie and a truck on the N1 near Ingwe outside Louis Trichard in Limpopo.

Major roads in the province are experiencing high traffic volumes as thousands of ZCC pilgrims are going to Moria for the church’s spring prayer gathering.

Provincial traffic spokesperson Matome Moremi says, so far, Limpopo has experienced fewer crashes than over the same weekend last year.

“We have so far had lesser accidents as compared to 2017 this time. The only major accidents we had was on the N1 near Ingwe lodge in Vhembe district were a front-liner collided with an LDV on top of the mountain and the truck overturned killing three people – a driver and to passengers – while three passengers were seriously injured with three surviving with slight injuries we are expecting the traffic flow to increase leading to Moria from the N1 south to south and from the two port of entries.”

The event also marks the new year in the church’s calendar.

Moremi has advised motorists going to Moria to avoid driving through the Polokwane CBD but rather to use alternative roads.

He says those who are traveling from Gauteng may not need to drive all the way to Polokwane but rather use the Mokopane-Lebowakgomo road or use D4040 Boeing- Maja road to avoid congestion because there is still construction on the R101 and N1 next to Ultracity Shell Garage.

Moremi says traffic officials will have a zero tolerance approach for those who do not obey the rules of the road.
