KwaZulu-Natal residents should brace themselves for heavy rainfall on Friday, but it is expected to be not as bad as last month’s mega-storm.

The South African Weather Service has issued warnings that severe thunderstorms are expected over the north-western parts of the province, south-eastern Mpumalanga and the extreme eastern parts of the Free State.

Weather forecaster Vanetia Phakula says the storm will come with heavy rainfall and the possibility of flash flooding.

“ If you look at KwaZulu-Natal, we have issued out a warning for heavy falls which will be between 15 millimetres in the next 24 hours and rainfall can happen at any time for on and off. And there is also an alert for possible severe thunderstorms which could be large hail or strong damaging winds heavy downpours and that is expected more over the interior of KZN. We have extended it to the eastern parts of the Free State and the southern Highveld of Mpumalanga for today (Friday).”
