The Department of Health in the Northern Cape has defended its decision to vaccinate all members of the provincial legislature including those allegedly under the age of sixty years.

The department argues that this was done to promote and reduce COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy. It has thanked leaders who have agreed to be vaccinated.

Opposition parties in the Northern Cape say the provincial department of health has allowed politicians to jump the COVID-19 vaccination queue.

They say this decision was extended to all sectors including cultural and religious leaders.

The department is adamant that this was an innovative way to get people to vaccinate.
