The Hawks have raided the homes of at least 15 municipal officials, a business and several offices of the Langeberg Municipality in Roberton and Ashton.
Hawks spokesperson Philani Nkwalase says the operation follows allegations of fraud, corruption, money laundering and contraventions of the Municipal Finance Management Act.
Nkwalase says documents and electronic devices have been confiscated. Nwalase says their investigation could lead to arrests.
“This relates to irregularities regarding the procurement processes and of defeating the ends of justice where in people have been hiding their criminal activities and concealing them to avoid prosecution.”
