Harding, who led after his first round 7 under 65 which he completed earlier in the day, started to slip down the leader board in the second round, until an eagle 2 with three holes left saw him claim the lead by two strokes.
Harding shot a 4 under 68 in a round that included four birdies, two bogeys and that hole out eagle to sit at 11 under par, two clear of England’s Tyrrell Hatton.
Another South African, Erik van Rooyen is at 8 under par, 3 shots off the lead, together with Paraguay’s Fabrizio Zanotti.
