The Democratic Alliance (DA) Women’s Network will lead a picket outside the Nieuwoudtville Magistrate Court in the Northern Cape where local Hantam municipal mayor is due to appear on a charge of assault.
Mayor Roger Swartz allegedly assaulted DA councillor, Jeanette Steenkamp during a heated engagement in March.
Swartz is also facing another charge of assault laid by DA councillor Gizelle Opperman.
The DA Women’s Network Federal deputy leader, Safiyia Stanfley says, “We don’t accept any kind of abuse from anyone against anyone. Obviously if there is abuse it needs to be highlighted and the perpetrators must be brought to book.”
