Gym owners are calling on government to allow them to reopen their businesses under Level 3 of the national lockdown.

Although exercise is now permitted from six o’clock in the morning until six at night, gyms remain closed.

Gym owners and their employees say they are struggling to survive without any income.

While many sectors of the economy begin to open up at Level 3, the fitness industry continues to remain closed.

Many in the sector are battling to put food on the table.

“I have now lost employment with the private gym that I was working with, mainly because the majority of my income was through commission,” says a personal trainer.

A gym owner says, “For us to be able to pay our own personal bills that needs to stem from the business and that has not been possible,” says a gym owner.

“COVID-19 had really affected us a lot because as the breadwinner in my family it has been had to sustain my family,” adds another gym owner.
