The video below is on the remembering internationally renowned SA jazz legend Jonas Gwangwa:

A host of prominent musicians and political luminaries are expected to pay tribute to him.

Arts and Culture Minister Nathi Mthethwa will deliver the eulogy at the funeral.

Others scheduled to pay tribute to him are veteran musician Caiphus Semenya and ANC heavyweights Baleka Mbete and Thabang Makwetla.

Gwanga was a renowned trombonist, composer and cultural activist who was born in Orlando East, Soweto.

Through 65 years on stage, Gwangwa’s playing contributed to every genre of South African jazz.

Overseas, he was hailed as player, producer and composer.

Yet he chose to step away from mainstream success for ten years, leading the Amandla Cultural Ensemble of the ANC to win hearts for the anti-apartheid struggle and present a vision of what post-apartheid national culture could be.
